Three Consecutive Years of Brand-wide Safety Leadership for Buick

2017-buick-lineup

Buick’s all-new 2017 LaCrosse flagship sedan has earned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) highest five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety rating1, giving Buick a NHTSA five-star sweep across its entire tested lineup of premium vehicles for the third consecutive year. Buick was one of only two brands in the industry to earn a five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety ratings on every model with its 2015 product line, and every Buick vehicle tested since has been rated at this highest level.

In 2016, four all-new or significantly enhanced Buick vehicles were launched in the U.S., and each one earned NHTSA’s five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety ratings — including the Cascada, which is the first convertible for 2017 with a five-star Overall Vehicle Score.

“We know safety is top of mind for buyers when shopping for new vehicles, and the recent ratings by NHTSA showcase our brand’s dedication to providing our customers with safe, reliable transportation,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. “We’ve launched four new vehicles in 2016 and we are extremely proud to continue to offer a lineup of award-winning vehicles that have NHTSA five-star Overall Vehicle Score ratings across the board.”

On sale since August 2016, the 2017 LaCrosse is longer, lower and wider than the previous generation. The car’s safety, handling and efficiency benefit from its advanced structure, thanks to the use of stronger, lighter press-hardened and high-strength steels. LaCrosse is a perfect blend of sophisticated technologies, advanced safety systems and authentic craftsmanship and continues to be Buick’s flagship sedan.

The Buick lineup offers a host of innovative safety features, including the company’s patented Safety Alert Seat, which provides alerts to the driver using haptic seat vibrations. The 2017 Enclave also offers the segment’s only front-center air bag, delivering enhanced protection to front passengers in side collisions. The all-new LaCrosse is the first Buick to offer Front Pedestrian Braking, helping to provide peace of mind for those inside the car and enhanced safety for those outside of the car.

‘Consumer Reports’: Skip BMW and Benz, buy a Buick

2014-Buick-RegalGSWidely consulted Consumer Reports says the latest Buick Regal is about the equal of the much more expensive BMW 328 and Mercedes-Benz C250.

While the publication’s report is unlikely to peel BMW and M-B loyalists from their German sporty sedans, it could intercept new buyers who want that kind of performance, but aren’t sure they should spend German prices.

CR: “Regal beat the Volvo S60 in a head-to-head road test. Ultimately, the Regal wound up finishing just one point shy of the class-leading BMW 328i and tied the Mercedes-Benz C250 for second place in the organization’s overall ratings of upscale sport sedans — while costing thousands less.”

That’s probably a surprise to shoppers who haven’t kept up with Buick’s evolution toward sporty performance (somewhat a return to the brand’s performance-oriented roots of the 1950s and 1960s), but it’s no illusion.

Jake Fisher, the publication’s director of automotive testing, says, “The Regal is a thoroughly developed and satisfying midsized sports sedan that’s more reminiscent of a German sports car than the softly sprung luxo-barges that Buick was once known for.”

The Regal bested the GM car that’s positioned as a true 3 Series rival, the Cadillac ATS turbo, previously tested by the publication. The ATS did well overall, though, only a few points behind the Buick, and earned a “recommended” rating from CR.

What does the Buick Regal really have to offer?: Check out this review!

Buick To Reveal Envision Crossover on August 28

Buick_EnvisionGeneral Motors has officially announced that it will reveal its hotly anticipated Buick Envision crossover on August 28th in Chengdu, China.

Buick-Envision-Official-600x340The compact CUV will slow in between Buick’s two existing crossovers — the subcompact Encore and the full-size Enclave. The Envision is expected to be the first vehicle to ride on GM’s new D2XX global vehicle architecture, with the CUV’s range-topping engine being none other than GM’s turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 (LTG) making 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

Stay tuned for more details!

Is your vehicle ready for Spring?

spring road

Now that the warmer weather has arrived, it’s time to ensure your vehicle is ready to enjoy many miles of warm weather driving. Here are a few tips to make this seasonal transition:

1. Get a car wash. Spring for the undercarriage wash to remove salt and road debris, like chunks of asphalt, to prevent rust and make your car more aerodynamic (which improves its fuel efficiency).

2. Replace worn wipers. Winter can be brutal on your wipers—make sure they’re ready for spring showers. Check that the rubber isn’t dry or cracked, then turn them on and make sure they’re properly cleaning the windshield. If you see a problem, install a new set.

3. Check your coolant. The coolant system works overtime in warmer weather so your engine won’t overheat. Have an ASE-certified (master) mechanic flush and refill the coolant system every other year. An engine that runs too hot or too cold won’t get good gas mileage.

4. Ensure your tires are properly inflated. Properly inflating your tires can improve fuel efficiency and is a very important safety step. Check the owner’s manual or look inside the driver’s side doorframe for your vehicle’s tire pressure rating, then use a pressure gauge to make sure they’re at the right level. In warmer weather, tires that are not properly inflated are also more likely to have a blowout.

5. Change the oil. Regular oil changes help prevent engine wear and can even save you gas money. Synthetic motor oil also offers great engine protection in extreme temperatures. Check your owner’s manual to see how often this should be done on your car.

6. Get a tuneup. A poorly tuned engine can reduce fuel efficiency. To ensure your vehicle’s peak performance, get a tuneup once a year. A basic tuneup can involve the replacement of spark plugs, inspection of spark plug wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor and air filter as well as inspection of the distributor’s dwell and timing. It also provides an opportunity to check out your vehicle’s systems, such as brakes and fluid levels.

7. Check your air filter. A dirty air filter makes it harder for your engine to breathe and hurts gas mileage.

Magnets Give Buick Crossovers AWD Refinement

When snow inevitably starts falling over the General Motors Proving Ground in Michigan this winter, Buick engineers will use the conditions to put the finishing touches on the Encore luxury small crossover. It arrives early next year as the brand’s first entry into the burgeoning small crossover segment.

Encore’s “Active On-Demand” all-wheel drive is designed to give the vehicle the fluid drive characteristics and sure-footed traction Buick drivers expect but in a Encore AWD Imagesmaller, lighter package. Unlike traditional systems that engage all four drive wheels after slip is detected, Encore uses a magnetic charge to engage a clutch at the rear axle preemptively when the vehicle is at rest because slippage is most likely to occur just as the vehicle begins to move. If no slip is detected, a computer control automatically disengages the preemptive torque to the clutch once the Encore is underway, returning the system to a primarily front-drive operation.

“A Buick all-wheel drive system has to deliver the best traction possible, and it has to do it in a way that’s totally imperceptible to the driver,” said Encore Chief Engineer Jim Danahy. “We engineered Encore’s lightweight, responsive and refined system to deliver on the expectations of demanding luxury buyers.”

Buick engineers used their experience developing an all-wheel drive system for the Enclave luxury crossover SUV and applied it to Encore’s smaller packaging. The Enclave uses similar technology. To fit Encore’s weight and space needs, engineers worked with BorgWarner to develop a new, more compact coupling for the rear axle.

Reduced weight benefits Encore’s handling, as well as fuel economy. With all-wheel drive, Encore’s EPA-estimated fuel economy is 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Beyond weight savings, the advantages of Active On-Demand all-wheel drive for the driver include rapid activation and deactivation, more control over the transfer of torque, more refined performance in tight turns and parking situations and better integration with safety systems like ABS and stability control.

“Technology is allowing us to translate Buick’s quiet, comfortable ride to smaller vehicles than we could before,” said Danahy. “This all-wheel drive system, like turbocharged engines and Buick QuietTuning technologies, allows drivers to experience that Buick DNA with unprecedented efficiency and maneuverability.”

According to the 2012 Harris Poll AutoTECHCASTSM Study, “familiarity with all-wheel drive continues to climb” and one third of all new car buyers would consider purchasing the technology on their next new vehicle. Consideration of all-wheel drive is greatest among luxury crossover/SUV owners, along with owners between 35-54 years of age. Among current all-wheel drive vehicle owners, 83 percent consider it an important feature for their vehicle.

In addition to the upcoming Encore and the redesigned 2013 Enclave, Buick offers all-wheel drive for the 2013 LaCrosse V-6 luxury sedan.
