Head To Head: The All-New Chevrolet Malibu Vs. the 2016 Toyota Camry

A lot has been said about the brand-new 2016 Malibu, but how does it stack up against another heavyweight in the industry? When you’re looking for your next vehicle, you have mo make sure you’re getting the best value, reliability, fuel economy, and deal for a quality vehicle. Today, we’ll compare the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu 1LT to the 2016 Toyota Camry SE. To establish what makes a great car, we decided to look at design, performance, technology, and safety. Which one do you think will come out on top?

Design

The 2016 Malibu 1 LT comes with Standard ambient lighting, and LED Daytime Running lamps: features not available in the Camry. The Camry comes with 17-inch alloy wheels while the Malibu 1LT is supplied with 17-inch aluminum. The Malibu also has greater passenger volume and trunk volume (102.9 and 15.8 (cu. ft.)1 respectively) than the Camry, with or without a monoroof. The Malibu also comes standard with passive entry/push button start…a feature only available for extra on the Camry.

Performance

The Camry is equipped with a standard 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, while the Malibu has a 1.5L Turbocharged engine. The Malibu has better EPA-estimated MPG on the highway, combined and the city (37, 31, and 27 respectively), and the Camry has a little more horsepower. However, the Malibu comes standard with Stop/Start technology unavailable in the Camry.

Technology

The Camry is equipped with 4.2-inch diagonal color DIC, while it is only available in the Malibu. However, the Malibu comes Standard with OnStar® 4G LTE Wi-Fi
hotspot trial: a savvy feature unavailable in the Camry. Each have their own infotainment system: The Malibu has MyLink, and the Camry has Entune, but only the Malibu has Apple CarPlay™4 and Android Auto™4 compatibility. What about the display? If you can’t read it, you can’t really use your infotainment system: the Malibu has a 7-inch display, versus the Camry’s smaller 6.1-inch display. Once you foctor in the  OnStar Guidance Plan 6 month trial, and text message alerts, the Malibu wipes the floor with the Camry for tech-savvy features.

Safety

There’s no comparison in this category. If you want safety, there is one clear winner. Both the Malibu and the Camry comes Standard with ten airbags, and a rear-vision camera. However, The Malibu has a wide array of safety features available that the Camry does not have including Front Pedestrian Braking, Low Speed Front Automatic Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alertwith Side Blind Zone Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator, Intellibeam headlamps, and Teen Driver Technology.

In Summary

We have concluded that the Malibu LT comes out on top for its EPA-estimated fuel economy, customization and savvy technology features like Apple CarPlay and Chevrolet MyLink, and comprehensive limited warranty coverage, including Courtesy Transportation and telematics – features not offered by Toyota.

Chevrolet Plays Centerfield

The Detroit Tigers season opener was a few days ago, and just like David Price and the rest of the team, Chevrolet has been preparing for the big day.

For the past six seasons, Chevrolet has chosen vehicles from its lineup to adorn the top of the Chevrolet Fountain at Comerica Park in Detroit, Mich. This fountain sprays Detroit Tigers spirit every time the Tigers score a home run, shooting water high into the air, all while a growling tiger roars through the park’s speakers.

This year, the fountain features a Velocity Yellow 2015 Corvette Z06 and a 2015 Midnight Edition Silverado. Reaching their perches atop the fountain is no easy feat. It is a three-hour process by a team of highly skilled professionals that requires gingerly lifting each vehicle into place using cranes.
