2016 Next-Generation Chevrolet Volt

image

Have you heard?  The electric car has been redefined with the 2016 Next-Generation Chevrolet Volt! This beautiful electric vehicle was voted the 2016 Green Car of the Year by the Green Car Journal not just for its amazing range 53 pure electric miles,* but its combination of gas-powered range extension up to 420 miles* so you can drive 1,000* miles between fill-ups with regular charging.

With its all-new 1.5L direct-injected, high-efficiency generator, the Volt is the electric car with a backup plan.  When the battery is depleted, Volt has the ability to generate additional electric power through a gas-powered generator giving you the confidence to go as far as you want eliminating the “range anxiety” common with other electric vehicles.

Volt is powered by two electric motors that work in unison to optimize efficiency and conserve electric charge while providing responsive power and torque. See below for a visualization:

The legendary Camaro Z/28 is back. Originally introduced in 1967, Camaro Z/28 was designed specifically to compete in the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans-Am 2 class. Lightweight, nimble and incredibly powerful, the original Z/28 was built to rule the road racing circuit.

The new 2015 Camaro Z28 has been redesigned in the front and rear to create a strong visual change, producing wider, lower and a more contemporary appearance. It comes with the full aerodynamic package that creates 410 lbs more downforce than the Camaro SS at speed, which assists in it being the most track-capable Camaro.

Pack Mentality: Chevrolet’s Tips for Traveling with a Pet

Michael Morgan of Seattle has a very simple rule when it comes to travel: If his dog Myles, a 25-pound Puggle, isn’t welcome, neither is he.

The 35-year-old real estate investment executive is among the 62 percent of Americans who own at least one pet, according to the Humane Society of the United States, and thanks to the collective $50 billion they spend annually on their four-legged family members, destinations once off-limits, now welcome well-behaved pets.

pet-travelIn fact, a study last year by AAA and a major hotel chain revealed more than half of U.S. dog and cat owners said they take their cats and dogs when they travel.

So whether it’s a scenic color tour or a holiday sojourn to relatives, it’s reigning cats and dogs in Chevrolet‘s this fall.

Before you go, there are some things to consider, according to PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Chicago, the city’s largest no-kill shelter, and other pet experts.

Traveling with dogs

Not all canines can handle road trips, so it’s best to take a few practice runs before a major journey.

  • pet-safeRestrain dogs during car trips for their safety and yours. Some states require this. Options include restraints, pet carriers and cargo barriers. The Chevrolet Equinox’s spacious cargo area can accommodate a good-size pet carrier and consumers can find specialized pet restraints for use in rear seats. Never let a pet ride in front because it could be seriously injured or killed if an air bag deploys.
  • As with children, never leave any pet alone in the car. On a warm, sunny day, even with the windows open, a parked vehicle can become dangerously hot in no time, and heatstroke can develop. In cold weather, pets can experience hypothermia. Furthermore, unattended pets can be stolen. If you see a pet in distress, Equinox owners with active OnStar can alert the authorities or animal control.
  • For dogs with anxiety issues or who bark a lot, try a chew treat to keep them occupied. Chewing and licking are very soothing to dogs, and may help yours relax. The optional cargo organizer in the Equinox has space for toys and treats, as do the multiple storage pockets in the doors.
  • Identify dog-friendly restaurants, hotels and dog parks on your travel route. For OnStar subscribers, an adviser can help locate pet-friendly establishments.
  • Some people snacks – like chocolate – can be fatal to dogs. If your dog gets into something dangerous, OnStar can connect you with Poison Control or send you to the nearest emergency vet.

Once you get to your destination, there is another important step to ensure your dog’s safety.

“Make sure you keep your dog on a leash while they explore your new destination,” says Joan L. Harris, PAWS Chicago director of training and canine behavior. “Even a well-trained dog may feel out of place until they are comfortable in a new location.”

Before the fur flies

Here are some prep steps to help ensure a great trip.

  • Make sure your pet is current on vaccinations and, depending on where you’re headed, get additional ones to protect against new threats such as canine Lyme disease. Find and program the number of a 24-hour emergency vet. That way, he or she is no more than a voice command away, thanks to the Equinox’s available MyLink infotainment system when paired with a compatible mobile device.
  • In case you become separated from your pet, carry a current photo. A microchip is also a good idea, as well as a collar with a cell number. Never allow your dog to leave the vehicle without the collar, ID tag and leash.

Traveling with cats

Scratch these items off the list before you travel with felines:

  • Use a pet carrier or cargo barrier. Unrestrained pets can be injured in a crash or pose a risk of injury to other vehicle occupants.
  • Familiarize your car by allowing your cat to cheek rub and spread its scent.  Or try placing a bed, blanket or a towel inside the car.
  • Consider packing a portable litter box, collapsible food and water bowls and feline first aid kits. An old scratching post you won’t mind discarding can also help keep cats calm.
  • To help prevent dehydration, especially on summer trips, try freezing a bowl of water that cats can lick to keep cool. It is a less messy option for traveling with water.

If your pet can’t join you, a rear passenger can video chat back home or to the kennel, courtesy of the available built-in OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connection in the 2015 Equinox. Up to seven compatible devices can connect to the 4G LTE connection at one time, allowing the entire family to check in.

Blue Lego Corvette

Ever since he can remember, Dave Slater has always wanted a 1969 Corvette. But rather than scrimping and saving for it, he just went ahead and built his dream car.

Out of Legos.

Lego_Corevette_build_stepsSince he uploaded it on Aug. 29, Dave’s design and creation of a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette is gathering support among both Lego and Corvette enthusiasts.

“I didn’t expect for the project to take off like it has. The response has been enthusiastic ever since I posted images of the design back in May.”

Dave has been a long time Lego fan, and sharing his love with his wife started him on the road to create this Lego masterpiece.

“Like so many other people, I grew up playing with Legos, but I put the sets away sometime around high school. When I found out my wife had never played with Legos, I knew I had to get out my old sets.”

Sharing the joy of Legos with his wife reignited Dave’s interest in the hobby, and he began thinking of ways he could design his own creations. He soon decided his first original creation would be his favorite car – the 1969 Corvette.

“For as long as I can remember, I have loved this car. The car just speaks to me. I love the curves and shape of it.”

Dave works as a designer in the litigation industry, and used his skills as an artist to help him create the Corvette.

“By day, I’m an artist creating 2D and 3D models within the tech sector, so I’m constantly drawing and modeling. When I set out to create the Corvette, I started by using the tools Lego provided to determine what pieces I would need for the build. I’d drawn the Corvette and modeled it in 3D so many times, I knew every curve of it.”

LDD_Corvette-520x300Using the Lego Digital Designer tool, Dave was able to see what Lego pieces were necessary to create the Corvette.

The Corvette ended up needing around 1,500 Lego pieces to create. Though he started off with many Legos of his own, Dave tapped in to a worldwide community of Lego enthusiasts to find the pieces he needed. That in itself was hard enough. What made the search even more difficult, however, was Dave’s color choice.

“I chose to make the Corvette blue for a couple of reasons. For one, it’s my favorite color. Secondly, this particular Corvette has always been blue in my mind (although I do prefer the C2 in red). And lastly, the online community tends to build kits like this out of red, black or yellow pieces, so I knew the blue would stand out.”
